Jake's Meats fire ruled accidental

| October 26, 2011 6:00 AM

QUINCY - The fire that destroyed Jake's Meats, just outside of Quincy on the highway to George, has been ruled accidental.

The fire occurred on Sept. 15. Grant County Chief Deputy Fire Marshal Bruce Gribble ruled on Sept. 22 it was an accident.

According to Gribble, the fire started when charcoal briquettes, which were used in a meat smoker the night before and left outside, were rekindled by afternoon winds.

The rekindled briquettes then ignited other nearby combustibles, Gribble said. Those ultimately burned up to and ignited the rear of the building.
