EPHRATA - A Quincy man is charged with a June drive-by shooting near North Park in Quincy.

Prosecutors charged Jorge Tamayo, 21, with assault in the first degree and drive-by shooting in Grant County Superior Court.

The victim, a gang member, was walking from North Park toward the railroad tracks when he heard one shot and felt a sting in his leg, according to a Quincy police report. He limped to a friend's house, who took him to Quincy Valley Medical Center for treatment.

A witness reportedly followed a Honda Accord from the scene to the home of a rival gang member. The witness allegedly recognized Tamayo in the car, according to the police report. The car was registered to Tamayo's girlfriend, and police discovered it outside of her residence.

Tamayo allegedly bragged about the shooting to a friend afterward, according to the police report. He referred to the victim by his gang affiliation. Tamayo was part of a gang when he lived in California, but not a part of Quincy's gangs. He was friends with gang members.

Tamayo reportedly told police he was drinking and using marijuana with a friend, walked to a party and left. When police questioned him about why the car was still warm when the officers found it, he allegedly said he didn't know, according to the police report.
