Royal Schools chosen for educator evaluation project

| October 22, 2011 3:00 AM

ROYAL CITY - Royal School District has been chosen to participate in the regional implementation of the statewide teacher/principal evaluation project for 2011-12.

Royal will be part of an Educational Service District 105 consortium with Cle Elum, Easton, Selah and Toppenish. They will collaborate in an effort aimed at improving teacher and principal evaluation systems.

The new evaluation process involves more time in the classroom observing how teachers work, as well as how students respond to teaching. In the past educators were rated satisfactory or unsatisfactory. The new approach has four grading levels.

"Teachers will be evaluated on how they develop the skills of their students," ESD 105 Superintendent Steve Myers said. "Principals will be evaluated on how well they develop the intentional and results-oriented teaching abilities of their staff."
