| October 21, 2011 6:00 AM

MATTAWA - The Civil Service Commission told the Mattawa City Council on Oct. 6 that it has pared its list of candidates for a police officer position to seven people.

The list now goes to the oral board for interviews, according to City Clerk Robin Newcomb.

In other business before the council, the public works department announced it is negotiating with the Town of George for the purchase of a used dump truck. It is equipped with a snow plow, Holcomb said.

Holcomb announced that the council passed a resolution adding one percent to the property tax for the coming year.

She said it was announced that work has begun on the sidewalk project on Boundary Street and the overlay project on Williams-Hoose.

And it was announced that Silvia Farias, who hopes to open a beer and wine shop in the community, has applied for a liquor license.
