COUNCIL RESIGNATION - Reader tries to clear the air

| October 21, 2011 6:00 AM

I cannot understand that if Ms. Bernette didn't want to resign there wasn't anyone that could force her to. She's an elected official. Only the council could with three unexcused absences which she did not have. Or be impeached, which is a court ordeal. She should have told the mayor, 'no,' and continued walking her dog.

I have supported Gina the whole time she has been here and it didn't make me think any less of her if she voted against something, so that part isn't necessarily the truth. Others supported her too. This is a democracy for heaven's sake. We're not all going to agree on all things. She did call me a few times and said she wanted to quit but I tried to encourage her to just finish her term. Does that sound like I didn't want her because she had different opinions?

She was at the council meeting. If she didn't want to resign, why didn't she stand up during public opinions and say, "I don't want to resign. I want to finish my term."

I only wish the best of her and enjoyed the time we served together. I just don't like her blaming people of things that weren't true.
