Two killed in crash on I-90
MOSES LAKE - Two people died in a five-vehicle pileup Monday on eastbound Interstate 90, about 26 miles west of Cle Elum.
The collision occurred just before 11 a.m. when eastbound traffic slowed as it was routed into a single lane due to road construction, according to the Washington State Patrol.
Ector A. Mendoza, 32, Yakima, was driving a 2007 International Tractor trailer truck and slowed for traffic.
Behind him, Jess A. Bass, 68, Star, Idaho, slowed his 2000 Jeep Cherokee when he was rear-ended by a 2006 Peterbilt tractor trailer truck driven by Edward Page, 64, Ephrata.
The collision created a chain reaction, causing Mendoza's truck to collide with a 2002 Buick Lesabre passenger car driven by Lilian H. Skelton, 47, Issaquah. She in turn collided with a 1999 Freightliner tractor trailer truck driven by Guillermo M. Calvillo, 46, Boardman, Ore.
Bass was pronounced dead at the scene, as was his passenger, Jean E. Bass, 73, the report stated.
Mendoza was injured and transported to the Kittitas Valley Community Hospital in Ellensburg.
Calvillo was injured and transported to a Bellevue hospital via ambulance.
Her three female passengers were also reportedly injured and transported via ambulance to the same Bellevue hospital.
The cause of the crash was listed as inattention and charges are pending, according to the report.
