Chiefs cross country runs strong at meet
WALLA WALLA - The Moses Lake cross country team traveled to Walla Walla Thursday for its second league meet of the year.
The boys team lost to Davis, but defeated Chiawana and Richland. The girls team didn't fair as well, as they beat Chiawana, but lost to Davis and Richland.
"It was a good reminder to our Chiefs of the competition will be facing at district's next week," coach Loren Childers said. "The teams both raced well. Not great, but definitely better than our first league meet of the year versus the same competition."
Both teams came close to beating Davis, and Childers said the runners have their sites set on the Pirates at next weeks district meet in Wenatchee.
"Overall, all of our runners ran decent three-mile times ... many of which, were personal records," he said. "But they and I both feel they have much more to give. We are really looking forward to the district championships."
The boys finished 11th overall at Walla Walla. Hayden Wise (16:10), Childers said, was disappointed with his performance as he was hoping to finish well in the top 10. Robert Warren (16:38), finished 24th, Justin Johnson (16:56), 27th, Alek Schwiesow (16:59), 28th and Nick Tripp (17:10), 31st, rounded out the scoring for the meet.
Julia Sherement (20:03), finished in 16th place, and Hannah Marsh (20:05),18th, were the Lady Chiefs top two finishers on the day.
