WILD SPLIT SERIES WITH JACKALOPES

| October 15, 2011 5:38 AM

WENATCHEE, Wash. - The Wenatchee Wild settled for a 2-game split with the Odessa Jackalopes after sustaining a 1-0 loss Saturday at the Town Toyota Center. Wenatchee won the first game of the series Friday, 2-0.

Odessa forward Willie Faust scored the lone goal 7:40 into the opening period Saturday when he redirected a shot from the point into the net. Jalen Krogman and Tyler Minx assisted.

The Wild had three power play chances in the second period, but could not get a puck past Odessa netminder Connor Hellebuyck, who turned aside all 31 of the Wild's shots to record his first shutout of the season.

Wenatchee had a pair of excellent even-strength scoring chances late in the second period, one by Matt Cope (Lakewood, Colo.) in the slot and, moments later, on a pair of shots near the cage by Evan Schmidbauer (Surrey, British Columbia).

Wild goalie Greg Lewis (Mars, Pa.) made a handful of key saves to keep his team within striking distance. Two of those saves came late in the second period when he denied Faust on a one-on-one try, then turned aside a shot from the slot by Chris Benoit at the buzzer.

Lewis made two more tough saves early in the third period. In all, he made 16 saves on 17 shots, but the Wild could not find a way to score the equalizer down the stretch.

Each team went 0-for-3 on man-advantages.

The Wild (4-4) will host the Kenai River Brown Bears for a 2-game series next weekend (Oct. 21-22). Both games are slated to begin at 7:05 p.m.
