Quincy planning to fix storm drains

QUINCY - A Wenatchee-based company is fixing a problem with Quincy storm drains on Third Avenue Southeast.
The city council approved a $184,178 bid for Hurst Construction to work on the project. The city received eight bids on the project with one as high as $287,738. The engineer's estimate for the project was $296,725.
Water doesn't drain well along the street, City Administrator Tim Snead said. The construction company will rebuild the curb and gutter and add drain pipes to solve the problem.
"We have an area down there that creates a lake when it rains," he said. "They're going to take the pipe so it actually hooks into the collector that's in the highway. Right now it doesn't do that."
Councilmember Scott Lybbert commented on the project coming in roughly $100,000 less than the engineer's estimate.
The project is expected to start in October and should take about three or four weeks, Snead said. Construction is likely to close a lane on state Route 28.
