Soap Lake volleyball loses to Riverside
Soap Lake Eagles defend the net during Saturday's game against Riverside Christian
YAKIMA - The Riverside Christian Crusaders played an unwelcome host to Soap Lake in 2B volleyball action Saturday, as they beat the Lady Eagles four sets, (25-17, 25-19,23-25,25-13).
Nicole Nobbs and Sarah Roberts combined for 15 kills to propel Riverside to 6-1 in league play. Nobbs finished with eight kills and four aces, Roberts added seven kills and Mikayla Brown and Haley Ackerman finished with four kills and two blocks for the Lady Crusaders.
Leslie Delgado had the hot hand for Soap Lake, with two kills, 10 assists and 14 digs. Deonne Ramm served up two aces, had 26 digs and four blocks, and Jackie Hernandez finished with one ace and 14 digs.
"I think we are starting to play pretty good right now," coach Christina Harvill said. "Our last couple of matches have been real close. We've made a few changes in our approach and lineup and are now proving we can play with some of the top teams in the league."
Harvill said she is extremely pleased with the play of freshman hitter Nelly Korneychuk.
"She has really been dominating," Harvill said. "A lot of teams in the league won't hit against her when she's at the net."
Harvill said Hernandez turned in a solid performance against the Crusaders too.
'We pulled her up from the junior varsity team for her defense and she really made some big plays for us," she said.
The loss drops the Lady Eagles league record to 2-5 and 3-5 overall.
Soap Lake travels into Coyote country Thursday to take on Kittitas. The match is set for 6 p.m.
