QUINCY - The final set of improvements to Quincy's senior center starts soon.
The city council approved a request for bids for the third and final set of improvements to the senior center during a recent meeting.
The estimated $103,500 project includes removing a weight-bearing wall between the dining room and the recreation area. Crews will install a truss across the building to support it.
"They want to open that up," City Administrator Tim Snead said. "They're also going to do a bunch of face lifting and just sprucing the place up. They've got this old paneling they're going to (remove)."
The project includes upgrading the restrooms in the rear of their recreation area, he said.
The goal of the improvements is to make the center more attractive for people who want to rent it for functions, such as wedding receptions, Snead said.
The project is the last of the planned improvements for the facility. The city has previously replaced the flooring, purchased a new stove, and upgraded two bathrooms to make them compliant with the Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA) guidelines.
"We don't want to disrupt their lives any more," Snead said.
