I-1125: Reader opposes initiative

| October 7, 2011 6:00 AM

The last thing our state needs is another Eyman initiative undermining our shaky economic recovery. We're not going to get Washington moving again by stranding students and commuters in never-ending traffic gridlock and throwing construction workers all over the state out of work.

Eyman's initiatives have cost the State of Washington hundreds of millions of dollars, lost wages, lost revenue for deteriorating infrastructure, like the very roads and highways he is once again attacking; and lost federal matching funds to stretch the money we use to keep our transportation systems in top condition for motorists all across the State, and visitors from other states that spend money here.

Eyman does not write and put these initiatives put onto our ballots with a good heart and the best interests of Washington residents. No! He gets paid thousands of dollars by initiative proponents, that have some financial gain of their own in these ballot measures. A multimillionaire donor, anti-transit developer, Kemper Freeman, has been fighting light rail, that will compete with his business ties to the Bellevue Square area, contributed over $1 million to get Eyman's I-1125 initiative onto the ballot.

Remember Prop 13, to limit property taxes in California, passed in the 1960s. California, the "Golden State", represented the best of everything any state could want. This initiative was the beginning of the end of the "Golden State." Prop 13 emasculated the economy. Eyman's initiatives are doing the same thing to Washington State.

It's easy to say, living in Eastern Washington, that it doesn't matter about stopping the light rail in the Puget Sound area. But, special wording in this initiative will affect highway construction in every county of Washington. Become informed! Vote No on Eyman's pet initiative, I-1125.
