Moses Lake Swim brings home hardware

FEDERAL WAY - The Moses Lake High School girls swim and dive team had a strong showing at the Mukilteo Invite at Federal Way Saturday, placing 6th overall with 254 team points.

Senior Courtney Schwiesow led they way for the Manta Rays, taking first place in the 100-meter breaststroke.

"She is the first Chief to win an indivdual championship at at a meet," coach Tony St Onge said. "That means she automatically qualifies for state."

Schwiesow finished with a time of 1:09.01.

Courtney really swam tough in this event," St Onge said. "Just out touching the next several competitiors."

Several Chiefs were championship finalsit including junior Amber Garrett who finished 6th in the 100-meter fly and 5th in the 500-meter freestyle, and senior Sammy Hendrickson, who took 4th in diving.

"Our goal was to swim mentally tough from start to finish," St Onge said. "During a six-hour competition, it's easy to have a lapse, but we kept our focus and intensity through the last relay.
