COULEE CITY - Banks Lake is being refilled while work crews handle planned maintenance projects along the lake.

The lake was lowered 30 feet this year for the projects, which entailed repairs on the Main Canal headworks at Dry Falls Dam and the Feeder Canal at the North dam, according to information provided by the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation.

On Dec. 31, the lake is brought to 1,550 feet or lower until Jan. 1. This elevation is a 12-foot increase from the current elevation.

Pumping restarts after Jan. 1, when the lake reaches its standard operating range of 1,565 feet to 1,570 feet.

The $2 million project is done at the beginning of irrigation season in March.
