Ted Smith

Ted LeRoy Smith, 82, Moses Lake resident, died on November 22, 2011. His final days were spent surrounded by family and friends, during his fight against lung cancer.

Ted was born on August 31, 1929 in Chelan, Washington to Ed and Kate Smith. He married Frances Alayne Everett on August 12, 1947 in Seattle, Washington. They were inseparable for over 64 years and together had 5 children, Marsha, the oldest, Mark, Geoff, Paul and Ned.

Ted and Frances moved to Othello, Washington in 1950. They farmed 150 acres in Block 49 from 1954 - 1962 and Ted was farmer of the year during that time. He then went to work for Big Bend Electric, where he worked his way up to line superintendent. In 1977 they moved to Davenport, Washington for a superintendent's job there until 1984. In 1984 Ted and Frances purchased an irrigation business in Ronan, Montana. They sold the business and moved back to the Columbia Basin, Moses Lake, in 2002 for his retired years.

Ted's hobbies included golf, golf, and more golf, fishing, hunting, gardening and cooking. He was well known for his snickerdoodle cookies. He would make several batches a year and take them to family and friends. Ted would have his clam chowder every Friday at Sporty's Steakhouse with old friends and new. Old stories and new were exchanged for lots of laughs.

It was hard pressed to find anyone that didn't love Ted and if you would have met him, you would have loved him, too. He made a positive impression on anyone he was around. Ted was one of a kind.

Ted is survived by his bride, Frances, sister Alleda Arnold, children Mark (Suzie), Geoff, Paul (Chantel), 13 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents Ed Smith and Kate Snyder, his daughter Marsha Smith Holmes and his son Ned Smith.

Ted requested a special thanks to the medical staff at the Moses Lake Clinic and appreciated the compassion and professionalism shown to him and his family.

At Ted's request, no service will be held. Cremation has taken place.
