MATTAWA - The City of Mattawa has turned down the Grant County Health District's request for support funding.

The GCHD was seeking a contribution of $2 per person. That would have meant about $8,000 in funding for GCHD programs.

According to City Clerk Robin Newcomb, the request was turned down at the city council meeting of Nov. 17.

The council meeting was short, ending about 15 minutes after it started. Newcomb said the only other business was an event permit for Our Lady of the Desert Catholic Church.

The church is planning a public processional on Dec. 11.
