Three escape with minor injuries from violent roll-over
A Grant County Sheriff's deputy tries to re-create the accident, standing along the path of car parts leading to the vehicle in the distance. It started flipping and spinning about 150 feet from where it finished.
The force of a Friday afternoon roll-over at Desert Aire was enough to snap off a wheel and leave the 2006 Infiniti totaled. One passerby seems to point out the path of the flipping, spinning car to another bystander.
DESERT AIRE - Three young men, perhaps teenagers, found 11-11-11 to be their lucky day. They escaped serious injury in a violent roll-over of the car they were riding in.
The single-car accident occurred at about 4 p.m. on Friday. Grant County Sheriff's investigators were too busy to make any statements. But witnesses were not.
The wreck occurred on Desert Aire Drive North near its intersection with Columbia Ave. The car ended up on its top in a landscaped yard and narrowly missed a couple of houses.
A woman who lives on that street but preferred not to be identified, said the cause of the roll-over was excessive speed on the residential street. She guessed that the 2006 Infiniti was traveling at a speed of more than 60 miles per hour.
"It hit something and started flipping and spinning (about 150 feet) through the air," she said.
Another witness said: "Nobody was killed. One of them even got out and ran."
The driver, who did not identify himself to the Royal Register, said he is a recent graduate of Wahluke High School. He remained at the scene and had facial cuts and bruises.
"I probably have to go to the clinic," he said. "My leg is hurting."
The driver added that he veered off the road into the gravel shoulder and hit a rock that threw the car out of control.
One of the passengers, unidentified, also remained at the scene. He said he was not hurt and that all three occupants were wearing seatbelts.
Once the car started flipping, it started to shed parts. There was a trail of debris extending about 100 feet.
Fortunately for home owners, the car rolled in a forward direction and missed a couple of houses set back from the street. It did damage landscaping along its path.
