Upcoming deer seasons

The late archery deer hunting seasons run Nov. 23 through Dec. 15 for whitetails in some units and Nov. 21 through 30 for mule deer in other units.

A Master Hunter white-tailed antlerless hunt is scheduled for Dec. 9 through 15.

Bear

Black bear hunting will close next Tuesday, Nov. 15.

Elk

There are several late archery and muzzleloader general elk seasons throughout Eastern Washington.

Two Master Hunter elk hunts are ongoing and one will begin on Dec. 9 and continue through Dec. 31.

Turkey

The Late Fall General Turkey Season is scheduled for Nov. 20 through Dec. 15 in Game Management Units 105 through 124. The limit is one turkey of either sex.

Fishing

Not one fishing report has reached our desk this week. However we are anxious to visit and fish Banks Lake with the low water being the draw. Plus it will be interesting to see the usually underwater, but now exposed structure of the lake.

Wildlife viewing

We haven't traveled north for an eagle viewing trip yet, but the birds should be showing up in the Steamboat Rock State Park area at any time. Besides eagles, there are usually plenty of deer and other wildlife to see. We came across a golden eagle one time in this area.

The Potholes Reservoir area is also an excellent area for viewing wildlife. Birds are always in abundance, but deer can be found also.

A trip north or to Potholes is a great family outing. Consider keeping a journal of the wildlife seen during the trip. Such trips create memories which will last a lifetime.
