Moses Lake teen arrested for forgery

MOSES LAKE - A counterfeiting investigation led to the arrest of a Moses Lake teenager on four counts of forgery.

On Thursday afternoon Moses Lake Police stopped a vehicle suspected in connection with the recent use of counterfeit $20 bills, according to Moses Lake Police Chief Dean Mitchell.

The U.S. Secret Service was notified and the vehicle was impounded pending a search warrant. Two search warrants were obtained Thursday and several undisclosed items were seized, Mitchell stated.

The suspect, 19, was held for a police interview and the Secret Service advised to continue holding him until they could also conduct an interview.

The suspect was then booked into Grant County Jail and is being held without bail.

Earlier last week a number of Moses Lake fast food restaurants reported counterfeit $20 bills being passed. The public and local merchants were advised to be aware, and on Thursday a restaurant employee obtained the license plate of the suspect vehicle, according to Moses Lake Police.

"The arrest was the result of cooperation between local businesses and the police department," Mitchell stated.

Mitchell said Friday he expects further arrests in the case, and more information will be released at the conclusion of the investigation.
