Johnnie Mae Jackson
Johnnie Mae Jackson, 84, a long time resident of Moses Lake passed away at her home on Friday, October 28, 2011 with her family at her side. Viewing will be on Friday, Nov. 4th from 12:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Kayser's Chapel, in Moses Lake. Services will be held on Saturday, Nov. 5th at 10:00 a.m. at the New Bride Baptist Church, 4125 Fairview Ave., Moses Lake. Johnnie was born on December 30, 1926 in Weatherford, Oklahoma, daughter of the late Rupert and Suzie Beatty. She graduated from high school in Oklahoma and then moved to Philadelphia where she attended college for child psychology and sociology for 1 ? years until she had her first child. She moved throughout the country finally settling in Seattle where she met and married George Jackson on Dec. 15, 1967. They moved to Moses Lake in 1974. Johnnie began babysitting on the corner of Knolls Vista and Ridge up until she became ill this year. Grandma Jackson helped raise many, many children besides her own 13.
Johnnie was a founding member of the New Bride Baptist Church. She loved spending time with her family and friends.
She leaves behind her children Sue Jenkins of Seattle, Anne Jenkins of Philadelphia, Patricia and Leonard Mitchell of Moses Lake, John and Cindy Norwood of Seattle, Bobby Norwood of Arizona, William Booker of Airway Heights, Arlene and Rob Wilson, Darlene Powell, Gloria Powell, Donald Norwood all of Seattle, Deborah and Ray Landrum of Moses Lake; 42 grandchildren; numerous great and great-great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George, two daughters, Sanaria Norwood and Gerald Jenkins, one grandson, Derrick Norwood, and one great-granddaughter, Syhkara Powell.
