WARDEN - Two goals by Taylor Edson helped the Warden Cougars turn back a feisty Liberty Bell soccer team 3-1 in the first round of 2B Central Washington district action Tuesday. The victory advances Warden to the second round of tournament play to face either Brewster or Manson Saturday.

"This was a nice win for us," coach Don Edson said. "Liberty Bell is a tough team and they showed up to play today."

The Cougars got the first goal of the match on a kick by Taylor Edson at the 30th minute of play to take a 1-0 lead that held up through intermission.

"We (the offense) struggled a bit in the first, " Edson said. ''But that was mostly due in part of the effort Liberty Bell put into the game."

Warden increased the score to 2-0 on a goal by Brylee Whitney off an assist by Edson at the 53- minute mark. The Mountain Lions let out a mini-roar and answered back with a goal by Sage Abate to get Liberty Bell back in the match, 2-1.

Edson's second goal of the match came late in the second half of play to close the door on the Mountain Lions, 3-1.

Coach Edson said he was happy with the way the girls performed.

"Even though we didn't play our best, the girls found a way to get the job done," he said. "They have put together a really good season ... have battled through some tough games and are grinding out wins. They just win no matter what they need to do."

Warden will host either Brewster or Manson in round two Saturday. The time is yet to be determined.
