MOSES LAKE - An early morning fire that demolished a motor home north of Moses Lake was reportedly sparked by a space heater placed too close to a bed.

A dozen Grant County Fire District 5 firefighters responded to the blaze on Stone Road Northeast at about 2 a.m. Wednesday, according to Fire District 5 Battalion Chief Rick Wentworth.

When they arrived crews found the "derelict motor home" fully engulfed by flames and, although the fire was quickly contained, Wentworth said the structure was a total loss.

The fire reportedly started when the woman who was living in the motor home hooked up an electric heater to an extension cord and placed it next to her bed, which ignited.

The motor home was adjacent to a singlewide trailer on property belonging to a relative of the woman who, Wentworth said, apparently had been given permission to live there.

The trailer home was unscathed by the fire, but the woman reportedly lost all of her possessions in the blaze and is still trying to locate her dog, Wentworth said.
