Donna Correia
Donna L. Correia, 71, longtime resident of Wilson Creek, was called home to be with her Lord and Savior on Oct. 22, 2011.
Born Aug. 3, 1940 in a little house west of Artois, California, she was the fifth and youngest child of Jodie and Lela (Biggs) Mayberry. From the time she was two years old, Donna moved several times with her mother and sister Gloria to places in northern California and Oregon, eventually settling in Willows, California where she started the fourth grade. While attending high school there she met and later married Jess R. (Bob) Correia on July 6, 1958 in Willows. They spent nearly 53 years together living in California, Arizona, and Washington raising their five children. While raising the family, she still found time to work outside the home. Her various occupations included being a housekeeper (at the Travel Lodge in Gila Bend, Arizona, and the Hallmark Inn at Moses Lake) and as a cook at McKay Nursing Home (Soap Lake). In Wilson Creek she served as the postmaster relief for the USPS, cleaned the Presbyterian Church, and cleaned birds at the "Turkey Farm" north of town. At one time or another over the years and while working her "normal" jobs, she also sold Avon products and cleaned homes for a number of people. Donna's many hobbies and favorite pastimes included collecting dolls (among many other things), sewing, crocheting, putting puzzles together, playing Bunko, solitaire, watching "The Price is Right," and always getting ready for the city-wide yard sales held in Wilson Creek every August.
Donna loved her family and always had great joy in being a part of everything they did. She liked to ensure everyone was included in whatever was going on and was well-known (by family and friends) for her love of buying gifts and sending out cards for all occasions to almost everyone she knew. Holidays were a special time to her and she was tireless in making sure those times were very meaningful for all of us. Our mom had a great joy investing her life into the lives of her children and grandchildren. She was always the one constant that held things together and made lasting memories of even the smallest moments in life. She was the best mom and she will be dearly missed until we all meet again the in the presence of God.
Donna is survived by her five children: son Bobby (and Teri) of Wilson Creek, WA; son Jeff (and Debbie) of Washington; son Bill (and Janet) of Moses Lake, WA; daughter Karen of Paradise, CA; and son Michael (and Erin) of Coulee City, WA; 12 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; her brother Jodean (and Pat) Mayberry and sister Gloria Lowe, both of Willows, CA; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Bob (on June 10th), her parents Jodie and Lela (Granny), and two sisters Wanda Jean Zimmerman and Bobbie Jane Mayberry.
A celebration of Donna's life (as well as for her husband Bob) will be held at 2:00 P.M., Sunday, November 13, 2011 at the Assembly of God Church in Coulee City, Washington.
