Chiefs swim and dive finish third

ELLENSBURG - The Moses Lake High School girls swim and dive team turned in a solid performance, placing third at the CBBN 4A District Meet in Ellensburg last weekend.
"I was satisfied with our finish," coach Tony St. Onge said. "We started out kind of slow with an up and down preliminary competition on Friday, but came out Saturday and improved on all our times and finished strong."
The team earned 346 points at the meet. Wenatchee (527) edged out Richland (513) to claim the district title.
Courtney Schwiesow, who led the way for the Chiefs, was crowned District Champion in the 100 breast stroke with a time of 1.09.96. She beat second-place finisher Hannah Pickett from Richland by three and a half seconds. By placing first, Schwiesow will compete in the event at the state meet Nov. 11 and 12 in Federal Way. Schwiesow also took third place in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:19.26.
"Courtney swam well, but the times weren't her best," St Onge said. "She did re-qualify for state and that was her goal."
The Moses Lake 200 medley team of Grace Hochstetter, Schwiesow Amber Garrett and Vitoria Dalrymple placed 3rd overall with a time of 1:58.48, and is a possible wild-card berth into the state meet.
Senior Sammy Hendrickson had another strong meet, finishing second in the 1-meter dive with 17 points, just three back of Beth Klingele from Eisenhower. Hailey Garza finished third. Hendrickson will be representing the Chiefs in the event at the state meet. Hendrickson was also named the the Big 9 Diver of the Year.
"Sammy had a tough battle all the way through," St. Onge said. "But she turned in a great effort and just got edged out of first place. She been consistent all season, so it was no surprise she was voted diver of the year."
Several other Moses Lake swimmers placed in the top eight at the meet, but didn't make the cut for state.
Amber and Kelly Garrett finished fourth in the 100 fly and 500 freestyle respectively, Hochstatter took 6th in the 200 individual medley and Abby Johnston placed 5th in the 500 freestyle and 8th in the 200 freestyle.
