SCHOOL LANGUAGE Reader wants speech cleaned up

| May 27, 2011 6:00 AM

Hi, my name is Ashleigh Hanks and I am a freshmen at Moses Lake High School. I know I'm going to get judged and ridiculed for this, but it is something that sincerely bothers me, so I am speaking out. Why don't teachers do anything when kids cuss at school? It says in the handbook that no explicit language is allowed and yet kids continue to swear non-stop. I propose that if somebody wants to swear at school, then they can get some sort of discipline. And you may say, you have the freedom of speech, well, does that mean I get the right to protest getting homework? No, I don't. And why take away my right to not hear those things because of your selfishness? It isn't right and I want to do something about it. Kindergarteners are starting to cuss and use sexual, degrating jokes because they hear "big kids" using them. That needs to stop and it's sick. Please help me do something about this. Thank you. God bless.
