YAKIMA - A solid regular season didn't hold enough steam for the Moses Lake Chiefs team during the just completed Columbia Basin Big Nine district tournament held in Yakima.

The tournament, held mostly at Kissel Park since last week and which ended last night, saw no Chiefs boys or girls advance to next week's regional tournament.

"We really struggled all weekend with match intensity," Moses Lake head coach Jon Wrigley said. "It was playoffs and we did not match the fire of our opponents."

Securing top performances for the Chiefs were the No. 1 boys doubles team of Josh Black and Levi Huddleston who advanced to the quarterfinals before losing a 6-4, 6-3 decision to Nathaniel Noyd/Scott Willis of Wenatchee. Courtney Kunjara, the Chiefs girls' No. 1 singles player also made it to the quarterfinal round before losing 6-3, 6-3 to Tori Klein of Eisenhower.

Both Black/Huddleston and Kunjara were subsequently eliminated in two sets in the consolation quarterfinal brackets.

Earning first round wins as well for Moses Lake's boys were, Cody Jones (No. 2 singles), Tyler Knapp/Conner Koreis (No. 2 doubles), and Bryce Perez/Dallas Pryor (No. 3 doubles).

On the girls' side, Chiefs that along with Kunjura got at least one win in the winners' bracket were Jessica Homesley (No. 2 singles), Amanda Hart/Annalise Odegaard (No. 1 doubles), Marki Koreis/Makena Jansen (No. 2 doubles), and Becca Byam/Ece Yilmaz (No. 3 doubles).
