SCHWANA - The people of Schwana had a community clean-up recently that may lead to more such events.

"The town looked nice when we were done, but we're starting to see trash again," co-organizer Tina Gutiérrez.

However, the better reason for additional clean-ups, according to Gutiérrez, is the socialization that took place. Folks were in a festive mood, she said, as they went about this chore. There was a barbecue afterward  for the volunteers.

Tina and her husband Alfredo, pastor of the Church of God of Schwana, organized the clean-up. Both said its success encourages them to not only consider additional clean-ups but also some type of yearly community celebration.

"Anytime you can bring people together, it's a good idea," Alfredo said. The volunteers included about 25 children of all ages and 10-12 adults.
