Reader supports staff, applauds efforts

Although I have heard about it before, I never realized how people view teachers. Earlier in the year, a couple of fellow students and I were invited to a type of news forum in Spokane where the television and community organizations were invited to talk in small groups about issues to be discussed in the community. I was selected by my teacher, Mrs. Stall, to talk about education- standards, testing, etc.

When we introduced ourselves, I said "my name is Dallas Pryor, student at Moses Lake High School." But when it was Mrs. Stall's turn to introduce herself she said "my name is Karen Stall, Teacher at Moses Lake High School, and I am not failing your students!" Before this I never thought that people questioned how well teachers taught, and whether they are professional or not. I believe that teachers should be held in the highest regards because they are teaching the Americans of the future. Without them, I cannot imagine where our nation would be headed. For instance in South Korea, teachers are known as "Nation builders" because they do build up the younger generations (as do our teachers). So although some people do not believe teachers are professionals because of their six week break, or because they do not dress in suits every day, they have more education than the average American and should be held in the highest regard because they are helping the prosperity of our nation in the future. No matter how they dress, teachers at Moses Lake High school are not failing students and should not be knit-picked for "wearing dirty jeans" to school. Whatever you believe, public school is a great place to learn and a great option for schooling as compared to private school.
