Mattawa slates weekend clean-up

| May 12, 2011 6:00 AM

MATTAWA - The City of Mattawa has scheduled a community spring clean-up for this weekend, May 13-15, and all residents are urged to participate.

A code enforcement officer will tour the city after the clean-up dates to check for unsecured garbage in yards and issue tickets. There is a Mattawa law that states yards must be kept clean. Infractions can lead to fines as large as $950.

The city will assist in the clean-up by accepting household and yard waste at its shop area at 710 First Street. There will be open dumpsters from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

You must have a recent utility bill from the City of Mattawa to dump.

Yard and household waste will be accepted, but appliances, tires, refrigerators and construction waste will not be. However, appliances may be taken to Jim Harmon Salvage  at the end of Broadway.
