MOSES LAKE - The state started a $2 million project to repave Broadway Avenue in Moses Lake, from state Route 17 to Interstate 90.

The project started Monday and is expected to run through July and affect Broadway Avenue and a portion of Stratford Road, Department of Transportation Project Engineer Bob Romine said.

Construction crews are removing about 2 inches of the existing pavement and laying new asphalt on the roads.

"We're going to be doing all the paving and milling at night," he said. "We've got some daytime (activity) that we're going to be doing ramps. The work in the roadway will be from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m."

Along with the new asphalt, Romine said construction crews will also be working on the traffic signal at the intersection of Broadway Avenue and Stratford Road. They will also be putting in a bike lane along most of Broadway Avenue.

"We won't have a bike lane going through the business district," Romine said.

The engineer's estimate for the project was $2.3 million and two bidders submitted for the project.
