TOURISM FUNDS

Headline in the Columbia Basin Herald tonight, "Ephrata gives extra money to events," makes me wonder whether the tourism funding is fairly distributed. I agree that Summer Sounds brings a lot of people to Ephrata but the CB Youth Baseball is held in Moses Lake. I agree that the Babe Ruth Series scheduled in Ephrata will bring money into Ephrata for lodging and food (there are no longer any stores to shop unless you go to Walmart) but I guess I have a concern for the history of Grant County also. The Grant County Historical Society applied for a mere $1,500.00 for advertising and were declined because "people attending the museum did not stay or spend money in Ephrata." How do you know they did not stay in Ephrata or have lunch or dinner at a facility in Ephrata? To my knowledge, Randy Boruff nor Mark Wanke have never attended any of our open house or private tours at the museum. Sometimes I question the fairness of the tourism grant approvals.
