¡Edúcate Latino at BBCC helps students prep for college

MOSES LAKE - Big Bend Community College held its fifth annual ¡Edúcate Latino Education Fair recently.

"The purpose of this program is to have workshops in both English and Spanish to get information on paying for school," said WorkFirst Program Coordinator Ana Bolivar. She was a member of the committee organizing the event this year.

Workshops at the event offered a variety of information on preparing for college. Topics included paying for college and financial aid, how parents can support their children in their endeavors to attend college and the running start program.

Several universities had tables at the event, as did various programs and organizations at BBCC.

Keynote speaker Abraham Guadarrama, a senior at Royal City High School, participated in the TRiO Upward Bound program at BBCC. He spoke about his experience obtaining financial aid for higher education. 

Guadarrama received the following awards and scholarships: the Alexander Hamilton Citizenship Achievement National Gold Award; the Pearl M. Hill Memorial Scholarship, $500; the Coca-Cola Regional Scholarship, $10,000 and the Dell Scholarship, $20,000.
