Committee member thanks sponsors

The "Solar Cup" hydroplane race committee would like to thank

all of the local sponsors (30-plus in number) for helping to make

this years race at Connelly Park the most successful on record.

The "Solar Cup" hydroplane race committee would like to thank all of the local sponsors (30-plus in number) for helping to make this years race at Connelly Park the most successful on record. The dollars and in kind contributions provided prize money for first, second and third place winners in eight classifications. Fifty boats with 324 owners, drivers and crew members were in Moses Lake this past weekend. They enjoyed the sun, the lake and the park and frequented restaurants, lodging facilities, grocery stores, auto and boat parts businesses, sporting goods stores, mini-marts and gas stations and commented favorably about the friendly atmosphere of the greater Moses Lake Community and it's citizens. Approximately 4,000 spectators attended the two-day event making it the largest attendance in the history of the race.

The Moses Lake Irrigation and Rehabilitation District in conjunction with The Seattle Drag and Ski Sprint Racing Association again hosted the event along with the Solar Cup Committee (it should be noted that no funds come from MLIRD tax dollars).

I wish to thank Dave Villwock, World Champion Unlimited Hydroplane Driver, for appearing at Moses Lake High School during the lunch hour Thursday, signing autographs and talking with roughly 600 students about his experiences.

A special thanks goes to Ana Cappeletti, race coordinator, and MLIRD staff members for donating their time and energy to make this years race such a great success.

I can say, without reservation, I have never met a more friendly, gracious and appreciative group of people than I did this weekend at the Solar Cup Races. I am already looking forward to next years race, and would suggest you mark your calendar so you don't miss out on a wonderful weekend of family entertainment.
