Royal Knight girls drop 2 in softball, fall to 2-4
ROYAL CITY - The Royal High school girls battled, but Riverview walked away with two South Central A Conference East softball wins Saturday at Riverview.
Riverview won the first game, 15-5 with a 12-run rally in the fifth inning that ended the game by 10-run rule. Until the bottom of the fifth, Royal looked like the winner, leading 5-3 after four and a half innings.
"Regardless of the score, we left the game encouraged by the focus and determination of the girls," coach Pete Christensen said. "We fought hard and played with purpose."
The second game got away from Royal inning by inning. Riverview scored 1, 2, 1, 1 and 1 run to lead 6-1 after five innings. The Panthers closed out the game with five runs in the sixth to kick in the 10-run rule.
Several Knights had a hit during the day. The leader was Stefhany Guadarrama, who got three hits in six trips to the plate.
The next action for the Knights, 2-4, will be today against Kiona-Benton on the Royal diamond. They will play Connell at 11 a.m. on Saturday.
"It is hard to see the improvements we are making from the stats, but each week the girls are getting closer to gelling into a team that others will have to sit up and notice," Christensen said.
