Royal drops Highland in soccer

ROYAL CITY - Luis Esquivel and Shaq Ledezma scored before 20 minutes were played, and Royal High school claimed a 2-1 South Central A Conference soccer victory over Highland on the road last week.

After the scores, Royal settled into a defensive posture against the pesky Scotties to maintain a 2-0 lead through 60 minutes. The Knights had some struggles in the second half but hung on.

Royal had only three shots on goal for the game. Highland had six, but Knight goalie Lupe Arceo had five saves.

Esquivel scored his goal at the 5:22 mark on an assist from Adam Martínez. Ledezma found a loose ball 10 yards out and stung a hard shot into the netting.
