Alice N. Broyles

Alice N. Broyles, 89, of Othello, died Thursday, April 8, 2011 at the Royal Park Care Center in Spokane.

Alice was born on April 22, 1922 in Burdette, KS to Ruben and Bernice (Kunkle) Loos. She attended school in El Dorado, KS where she met Jim Broyles. They were married in 1941. Jim served in the army and shortly after their marriage Jim went oversees. Alice returned home to her parent's house and worked in a local confectionary. After Jim returned home they moved to Alameda Naval Air Base in California. In 1948 they homesteaded land in Pavillion, WY. They farmed in Pavillion until 1955 when they moved to the Royal Slope where again they farmed until 1986, when they moved into town. Jim passed away in 1986 and Alice stayed on at the home until 2008 when she moved to Spokane.

Alice had many passions in her life, crafting, sewing, flower gardening, crossword puzzles, crocheting and especially her cats and dogs. She was a member of the Othello VFW women's auxiliary, The Royal Neighbors and a volunteer at Beverly Care Center where she sponsored a resident for many years. She will be remembered as a kindhearted woman who never met a stranger.

Alice was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Jim, and a sister Janice Moore. She is survived by her daughters Ota (Phillip) Harris of Newport, WA, Patty (Gary) Stemhagen of Othello, Nancy (Joseph) Mayes of Wexford, PA, a brother Don Loos of Enid, OK, 9 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

A visitation for Alice has been set for Monday May 2, 2011 from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Stevens Funeral Chapel in Othello. A celebration of her life will be held at Stevens Funeral Chapel on Tuesday, May 3, 2011 at 2:00 PM with interment to follow at Bess Hampton Memorial Gardens.
