2011 Rod Meseberg Spring Walleye Classic
The 2011 Rod Meseberg Spring Walleye Classic is open to any team of two. The entrance fee is $240 plus options. For an additional $50 fishers may enter the Big Fish option pot and the Big Stringer option pot. In 2010, 79 teams competed. Eighty percent of the entrance money is awarded to winning fishers. The Walleye Classic begins on Friday, May 6 with a free dinner for all contestants, their families and friends and tournament sponsors. After dinner, around 7 p.m., we have a mandatory drivers meeting where boat numbers are assigned and all questions are answered. Then, on Saturday, May 7, competition begins with a 6 a.m. take off. Weigh-in is Saturday at 3 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. and are open for the public to come watch. The weigh-in time's for Sunday is 1:30 and 2 p.m. Following the weigh-in on Sunday, we have a raffle and then the awards ceremony follows. Anyone is welcome to come and watch all the festivities. Walleye action is improving daily with post spawn walleye being caught in the Lind Coulee, the mouth of Frenchman's Wasteway and in the Crab Creek Channel up stream from the powerline boat launch.
Warden Lake opens on April 30 for some trout action. Rainbow Trout have been planted this year.
Upper Goose Lake has been the most important trout action in the seep lakes for fishers trolling in boats. Bank fishing at Upper Goose is very limited due to steep cliffs on most of the shore. Upper Goose also has perch, largemouth, smallmouth, bass and walleye. In 1964 Othello resident Bob Masseth caught a strange looking sharp toothed fish in Upper Goose. Bob took the big spinny ray to Ted Delay's mint still on the east end of the Royal Slope and Grandpa Delay knew Bob's fish to be a Walleye. To our knowledge that was the first fish story about walleye from the seep lakes.
