CASHMERE - The defending Class 1A state champions showed they may be tough to beat once again as they cruised to a 12-0 win over the Royal Knights on Tuesday night.

Uli Montoya was the only Knight to get a hit, as Nick Tarvar one-hit Royal (0-1).

"I was very pleased with the performance of our starting pitcher Danny Vermeer," Royal head coach Daren Christensen said. "He kept us in the game until the fourth inning when he continued to pitch well but the defense had five errors that lead to five runs."

Vermeer finished with six strike outs and three walks over 3.1 innings.

"Overall I was pleased with the effort of the team," Christensen said. "We have a clear picture of what we need to work on.  I am looking forward to playing La Salle this Saturday."
