MOSES LAKE – The continuing rise of the Moses Lake High School girls golf team reconvened at the Moses Lake Golf Club yesterday.

The Chiefs played host to the Moses Lake Invitational and wound up in 10th place with a score of 196 from the 16-team field, yet, their result showed plenty by way of how much closer they have come to the rest of the golfing pack.

Mt. Spokane, led by sisters Sierra and Savana Bezdicek - who finished 1-2 individually - won the tournament with a score of 149. Othello finished fifth with a 186.

Moses Lake, which finished fifth out of 14 teams at Friday's Hanford Invitational, were led by Vannessa Goodwin's 97 score as she wound up in 14th place in the individual competition. Other scorers for Moses Lake were Kristi Brown who hit a 106 and Jacy Jones' score of 108.

"We were in 10th place but there were two teams ahead of us by only three shots," "We were only a couple of shots out from finishing seventh. The conditions were pretty rough today, especially with the wind. The greens were real fast and our girls haven't played that much on them so far. We had a lot of extra putts today as a team."

Goodwin's score was improved from the past weekend.

"Her play was much more consistent," Lonny Brown said of Goodwin. "I was also proud of Kristi battling the weather and not giving up. Jacy was also the same with a couple blow up holes and she hung in there."

Othello's top finisher was Delaney Towle who ended up with a ninth-best score of 92. Towle's teammates Paulie Garza (102), and Mikayla Parris (110) were the other top Othello scorers.

"The tournament went smooth and play went well expect for the wind," Lonny Brown said. "In the beginning it was a little cold but over the last few hours it warmed up. After finishing fifth on Friday and with this result I feel pretty good. The three girls that are going to lead us know that they need to be 10 shots better and will keep working on their games."
