MOSES LAKE - A great start was balanced out by a more unfortunate finish in the Big Bend Vikings' baseball doubleheader on Saturday against Clark Community College.

The two teams split their first of two doubleheaders as the Vikings opened up with a dramatic 11-10 win in the opener before falling 9-2 in a nightcap drubbing.

In the first game, Big Bend (4-2) took a 5-1 lead after the first inning and slowly built it up to a 7-1 cushion before Clark battled back.

The Vikings led 10-7 going into the top of the ninth before the visitors scrapped back into a tie and then saw Big Bend end proceedings with a winning run in the bottom of the frame to claim the win.

"It was a great game if you like lots of offense," Big Bend head coach Don Lindgren said. "Our guys swung the bats real well.  Bryce Todd, Brett Gray and Matt Herbert all had multiple hits.  We had a couple of big hits with Jake Faulk hitting a two-run home run."

Big Bend won the game when Nate Regal hit a walk off double that score Jose Nossa from first base with one out.

Geoff Davis earned the win with one inning of pitching in relief.

In the nightcap, the teams could only go five innings due to darkness and Clark took advantage of the shortened contest with a six-run top of the fifth to pull away for a split.

"The second game was a nightmare for our defense," Lindgren said. "The game only lasted four-and-a-half innings and we had eight errors. We had at least one error in each inning.  I just hope that is our bad game for the year."

Todd recorded three hits for Big Bend in the loss as Cody Brunner took the defeat at the mound after four innings pitched.

Information on the Sunday doubleheader between the two teams was not yet available.
