No injuries in KC-135 emergency landing
Grant County Fire District 5, American Medical Response, Port of Moses Lake Fire Department and Grant County Sheriff's Department responded to the Grant County International Airport Friday to an emergency landing of a KC-135. A hydraulic malfunction caused the landing, according to a Fairchild Air Force Base spokesperson. No one was injured.
MOSES LAKE - A KC-135 performed an emergency landing about 5 p.m. Friday at the Grant County International Airport.
The problem was caused by a hydraulic malfunction, a problem not visible from the plane's exterior, said Angela O'Connell, deputy chief of public affairs with Fairchild Air Force Base.
The plane landed some distance from the airport terminal.
Three airmen were on board and there were no injuries, she said.
It is standard procedure to call an in-flight emergency and land the aircraft.
"At no time were the crew or aircraft in danger," she said.
Grant County Fire District 5, Port of Moses Lake Fire Department, American Medical Response and Grant County Sheriff's Office responded.
The plane was expected to be hooked up to a tow bar and tugged back into the main airport area, according to Craig Baldwin, the port's executive manager.
Crews from Fairchild Air Force Base are temporarily stationed in Moses Lake until about November while runway improvements are being completed at Fairchild.
