Body found in Moses Lake

MOSES LAKE - The body of a young white man was pulled from Moses Lake Wednesday afternoon.

It is believed to be Robert B. Scanlan, 25, Moses Lake, who went missing Saturday morning.

"We did find a body in the lake at about 2:30 p.m.," said Moses Lake Police Chief Dean Mitchell. "We don't know if it is Robert Scanlan, but we have probable cause to believe it is him."

There are no signs of foul play.

A wallet was found on the body, along with tattoos appearing to be similar to the ones Scanlan wore.

"Until we know for absolutely sure, we are going to wait to identify him," said Mitchell. "We suspect it is him."

The Moses Lake Fire Department assisted the police by using a boat to bring the body to shore and turn it over to the Grant County Coroner's Office.

Police were alerted to the body by a phone call indicating the body was roughly 30 feet from shore along Northshore Drive, said Mitchell.

Scanlan was reported missing Sunday. He was last seen by staff at the Saucy Hog Saloon around 1 a.m. Saturday night when they denied him service for being too drunk. He was reportedly celebrating a girl's birthday and had walked from the Vista Village Shopping Center parking lot where he watched the Battle of the Bands, according to his family.

The family was concerned for Scanlan due to his health issues including having a reported history of seizures.

On Tuesday volunteers gathered with the police, firefighters and members of the Grant County Search and Rescue group in an attempt to find Scanlan.

"We would like to thank all of the family members and the volunteers that helped to find his body ... We appreciate it," said Mitchell. "We were hoping for a happy ending and it just didn't work out this time."
