Jess R. (Bob) Correia
Jess R. (Bob) Correia, 71, was taken by the hand of his God on June 10, 2011. Born on March 18, 1940 in Willows, California, Bob was raised from an infant on a dairy farm outside of Willows by his grandmother Venita Correia, (who he always referred to as Mom).
Bob attended a one room country schoolhouse, Liberty School, near the farm for his first eight years of education and went on to attend high school in Willows where he met Donna Mayberry. They were married on July 6, 1958 in Willows and spent almost 53 years together living in California, Arizona and Washington.
Bob's passion for hunting and fishing took him many places. His last hunt was for turkey, and he filled his tag for 2011. The stories of his adventures were frequently told, and they always seemed to get better as the years passed. Although the years slowed him down, he always seemed able to keep up and move when the hunt was on. The one thing without exaggeration is that our Dad was an excellent shot with a rifle, pistol and shotgun.
After a brief stint with the US Forest Service and many years as a farm hand, Bob worked for nearly forty years installing turbine pumps for various companies in California, Arizona and Washington. The work was hard but he still showed up every day up until his retirement (and on occasion was even called out of retirement to help out). Many farmers in the area were grateful for Bob's expertise and the many overtime hours he worked to make sure that they got water to their crops and homes.
Bob was of Portuguese and American Indian heritage (Yurok and Tolowa Tribes). He was especially proud to be a member of the Yurok tribe of Northern California and a portion of his ashes will later be interred on tribal ground with a customary tribal ceremony.
Bob is survived by his wife Donna of Wilson Creek, Washington and his five children: Bobby Correia and Teri of Wilson Creek, Washington, Jeff Correia and Debi of Washington, Bill Correia and Janet of Moses Lake, Washington, Karen Correia of Paradise, California, and Mike Correia and Erin of Coulee City, Washington; 12 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by one brother Jim, and five sisters Chris, Paulette, Donna, Roberta and Kay.
He was preceded in death by his Grandmother Venita (Mom) and two brothers, Mike and Rockey.
With Bob's wishes, there will be no public memorial services.
"Walk proud through the heavens and don't look back; we'll all be with you some day." Love, Your Family
