Dear Klippin' Krazy
Couponing can be lots of fun, a huge money saver, and mostly confusing at times! This is exactly why I started Klippin Krazy to begin with. It has always been my mission to learn the skills myself firsthand and then pass those tips and tricks onto anyone who was willing to listen. Thus, the Klippin Krazy community was born and has been growing substantially ever since. Each week, Klippin Krazy fans from around the country, ask me to help guide them on their couponing quests. Here is just a little sampling of some of those questions in a fun little Dear Abby like way…
Dear Klippin Krazy,
I live in a rural town and we do not have a grocery store that doubles coupons. The nearest town that does have a store that doubles coupons is 35 miles away. It is difficult to plan the trips and the grocery list so that they go together - any suggestions?
~ No Doubles in Union Grove, Alabama
Dear No Doubles,
I too dream of living in a town that offers double and triple coupon days or any day at all for that matter! However, this is just not going to happen in my area and have since learned to live just as frugally without this option. There are still amazing deals out there to be had by simply matching sales with manufacturer coupons every week. I really just encourage you to follow the weekly match ups I provide you with on my blog and strike while the iron is hot. Then keep an eye out for when that sale cycles so you can do it again and never have to buy at full price again. Also keep in mind, the sale might not be worth the price of your first child just to fill the gas tank to travel the extra distance!
Dear Klippin Krazy,
When you shop for the best deals, prices, and coupons; what is your favorite grocery store to go to?
~ Trying to be frugal in Moses Lake, WA
Dear Trying to be frugal,
My favorite place to shop is wherever the best deals are that week. This might mean that one week I shop at 4 different stores and other weeks none at all. A great way to know if a store offers a good price, is to keep a little book of your most frequently purchased items and their corresponding regular and sale prices. This way, you will know if it truly a good price or if the store just wants you to think it is. A couponer needs to be an astute consumer and be able to spot a good deal from a great deal.
Dear Klippin Krazy,
Every time I try to take advantage of a good deal, the shelves are completely cleared of what I want to get! What time or what day of a sale do you suggest shopping to avoid this?
~ Frustrated in Texas
Dear Frustrated,
This is often the case nowadays and it can be very discouraging to all couponers and deal seekers. I often hear reports of people lining up before stores open on Sunday. Images of Black Friday and the old Mervyns commercial that chants “Open, open, open” dance through my head. You will never find me shopping on Sunday for this very reason. If you find that the deals are always gone, ask when new freight can be expected, ask for rain checks, price match at a competitors store if allowable, or preorder your goodies if you know a great deal is about to happen. Hopefully people learn to scale back their deal greed and things begin to balance out in the store aisles.
