Train hits catwalk in Ephrata

EPHRATA - A railroad engine collided with an overhead catwalk in Ephrata.

The train collided with the catwalk near a refueling pump at the Inland Oil Company, located at North Railroad Street near the Ephrata Municipal Airport, according to Ephrata police.

The collision occurred when Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway Company (BNSF) employees were pushing three rail cars out from underneath a pump used to fill the cars with propane, according to the Ephrata Police Department report. Once the cars were moved, the railroad engine was driven back under the pump. The engine proved to be taller than the gas rail cars and appears to have struck an overhead catwalk, said Ephrata police Sgt. Glen Maryott.

No fuel was spilled in the collision.

There were no injuries or significant delays or damage to any BNSF trains, according to spokesperson Gus Melonas.

The company is investigating the incident, Melonas added.
