TUTORING PROGRAM Reader encourages seniors to volunteer

| June 3, 2011 6:00 AM

In January I responded to an ad in our CBH newspaper looking for volunteers to help in a tutoring program for elementary school age kids. It turned out to be one of the most rewarding and enjoyable things I've done in years. I would like to encourage any senior and retired persons who would like to make a positive impact on the kids in our community to look into this. It's less than 1.5 hours a day. Some tutors come one or two days a week, some come more. The need is great and the good you can do, even greater. The program I attended is run by Youth Senior Connection, directed by retired teacher Wanda Harrison. If you remember the persons in your life who influence you as a child, here's a way to honor their memory and pay it forward.
