Walleyes go 2-and-2 in four games

MOSES LAKE - The Moses Lake Walleyes had a busy week of baseball.

In their latest contest, the team split a doubleheader with Othello, losing the first game 12-1 and coming back to take the second match-up 7-4.

"This game at least gives us a chance to move forward in the playoffs," Walleyes Coach Quintz Whitaker stated of the game two win.

The Walleyes (9-17, 13-26) fell behind in the first inning before making up the difference to pull ahead 2-1 in the bottom of the second.

Othello pressured Moses Lake with three runs in the fourth but, ultimately, Moses Lake sealed the win with a 5-run fifth inning.

"Our hitters did a great job of executing what we asked them to do. We had many guys drive in runs and move runners over when asked," Whitaker stated. "This was probably one of our most well-played games of the season. If this ends up being our last game, it was definitely a step in the right direction."

Cody Kelly was on the mound for the Walleyes.

"Cody (Kelly) came out throwing his breaking ball for strikes and was able to build all his other pitches off of it," Whitaker commented. "It was one of our best pitching performances against a solid team."

The Walleyes were awaiting results from other games to find out if they had qualified for a playoff spot.

Game one of the doubleheader was a different story for the Walleyes. Othello jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first inning and never looked back, winning the contest 12-1.

"This really wasn't the way we wanted to start the night," Whitaker stated. "But Othello came out and took it to us from the beginning. Luckily our guys didn't let the outcome of the first game effect their second game."

Kelly recorded Moses Lake's only run of the game in the bottom of the third inning.

The Walleyes faced two opponents earlier in the week, falling 6-2 to the Yakima Valley Peppers and defeating Pasco West 14-11.
