Thomas Jacob Hickman
Thomas Jacob Hickman, 79, went home to be with our Lord and Savior after a courageous battle with cancer, on July 1, 2011 with his loving family at his side. Rosary will be held at Our Lady of Fatima Church on July 7th, 2011, 5:30 pm. Services will be held at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church on July 8th, 2011, 10:00 am. Viewing will be from 9 to 9:45 a.m. at the church on Friday, July 8th. Interment will follow at Saint Rose of Lima Cemetery in Ephrata. The family will greet friends at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church CCD center following the graveside services. Arrangements are in care of Kayser's Chapel & Crematory, Moses Lake. Thomas was born on August 22, 1931 in Ansley, Nebraska to Joseph B. and Mabel L Hickman. He attended school at Ansley, NE and later Wenatchee, WA, when the family moved there. Thomas served in the United States Navy and Naval Reserves, Air Force Reserves, and Air National Guard where he obtained the rank of sergeant. He worked for the Civil Aeronautics Administration, which later became the FAA. Tom was stationed at Boeing Field, Edwards Air Force Base, and Yakima and Grant County Airports. He retired from air traffic control in 1982, and became a full time farmer.
Thomas married the love of his life Olga Hickman in 1952, and to this union 4 sons and 1 daughter were born.
Thomas was a scout leader, baseball coach, church council member at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, and former Grand Knight in the Knights of Columbus.
Thomas is preceded in death by his parents Joe and Mabel Hickman and sisters, Ann Riester, Doris Compton, and Lois Boyd.
Thomas is survived by his wife Olga Hickman, sisters Carol Newton, Lena Asher, Leola Siebert, and Sandy Oakes, brothers, Joe Hickman and Darrel Hickman, daughter Maria L. Burton, sons Thomas L. Hickman, Raul J. Hickman, Samuel E. Hickman, and Patrick J. Hickman, and numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Thomas touched the lives of many, and will be deeply missed by all who loved him. We are comforted knowing he is in the arms of the Lord Jesus our Savior.
