Academy girls unimpressive in rout of Easton
MOSES LAKE - It's not often where a 65-point win could leave an unsettled taste in a coach's mouth.
But for the Moses Lake Christian Academy Lady Lions head coach Bryce McPartland, his team's 75-10 North Central Washington 1B win over Easton on Tuesday night could have gone better.
"It would be easy to look at the 65-point spread and think we really put it to them, but the reality is that it took us a half to get going," McPartland said. "For us, for some of these games, it can't be just about winning, not even by this amount, it is about execution and we were not an efficient machine tonight."
The Lady Lions (12-2, 6-0) led 24-6 at the end of the first quarter and 43-9 at halftime.
Senior Kristina Firouzi continues her strong play following her recovery from injury leading the Academy with 24 points.
"Kristina has averaged 20 points per game the past three games," McPartland said. "That's solid, considering she'd been basically incapacitated for so long."
Melissa Verhage added 17 points while McKenna Walker added 16 points.
Madison Yamane added seven points, seven rebounds, and five assists.
Walker led the team with eight rebounds and shared the steals-lead with eight along with Abby Garrett.
The Lady Lions forced 47 turnovers.
"We forced 47 turnovers, which is good, but we probably missed just about that many lay-ins," McPartland said. "We just can't do that. That is, in large part, what cost us the game against Sunnyside Christian, back in December and we continue to fail to capitalize on our defensive efforts.
"I'm glad we had this game first this week," McPartland added. "Wilbur-Creston will be a step up in competition and they'll be looking for payback after we got them at their place a couple of weeks ago. We cannot get complacent now."
