Norm was born September 2, 1930 in Chicago where he was raised and educated. He served in the U.S. Army at Fort Lewis, WA. After being honorably discharged, he began his career in radio, working at KSEM for several years. He started his career in furniture in 1962, eventually owning Staat's Furniture on 3rd Avenue and later on Wheeler Road. Norm retired after more than 30 years in business.

Norm was first and foremost a family man. He was a devoted caregiver to his wife, Darlyne, who he has faithfully taken care of for the last five years in her struggle with Alzheimer's. Together they marked their 56th wedding anniversary on January 15th. Norm especially enjoyed the company of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and they in turn had a special love for their grandfather.

Norm was raised in the Catholic Church and was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Parish for 50 years before moving to the Tri-Cities. Norm was devout in his faith and joked about meeting Saint Anthony. Having grown up in Chicago, Norm has always been a die-hard Cubs and Bears fan. Norm spent many hours on the baseball field as a player, a spectator and an umpire for youth baseball. He enjoyed traveling to spring training in Arizona to watch his Cubbies. Norm had many hobbies. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed spending time at the Moses Lake Golf and Country Club with his buddies. He also enjoyed building model World War II airplanes, many of which he gave away to his grandchildren. He had great passion for college basketball's March Madness, wine tasting, and Rainer beer.

"Normie" will always be remembered for his great sense of humor, quick wit, his kindness and his overwhelming generosity. Norm was friends with everyone he ever met.
